Visit the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts

museum.jpgThe Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts opened in March 2008, in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and other private and public lenders to bring world-class art exhibitions to Northwest Houston. The Pearl is housed in a former county library, leased to the museum and renovated through private funds, grants and gifts. Together with the Barbara Bush Library, The Centrum, and the Cypress Creek Community Center, the Pearl is part of the Cypress Creek Cultural District.

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts brings the best in original, high-quality museum works of art to the day-to-day environment of the residents of Northwest Houston. The Pearl, a non-collecting museum, borrows from public and private collections. In its first year, the Pearl exhibited the work of Western artist and illustrator Frederic Remington, gold objects from modern-day Ghana, blacksmithing and metalworking, 17th- and 18th-century European paintings, and antique and contemporary art glass. The Pearl complements its exhibitions with an active schedule of programs and services.  Founded on the community center concept, the Pearl reaches beyond traditional museums to enlighten, educate and entertain.

The Pearl offers monthly Family Days at no charge with hands-on art projects, artist demonstrations, performances, and tours on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 11:00am-3:00pm.

Mirrors are used in several of the defined spaces to add to the child’s learning whether they are on their tummies gazing at themselves in the mirror in a padded area as they play or dancing with scarves in the amphitheater.

The Ball and Pillow Pit is a spot for children and their parents to explore the realm of physical knowledge by rolling, kicking and tossing a variety of balls.

St. Cuthbert Preschool Presents “Touch-A-Truck”

Children and parents of the community are invited to visit the preschool on September 22nd between 10am and 2pm to get an upclose view of emergency response vehicles, construction vehicles and some sports cars too!

Touch-A-Truck gives kids an opportunity to to get a first hand view of emergency vehicles and learn more about them literally through “hands on” experience. Not only seeing the vehicles up close, but sitting in the drivers seat and getting to turn on the sirens themselves makes the loud noises much less scary.

Introducing children to police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel can show them who they are, how they can help, and in case of a real emergency a child could identify who to ask for help. Touch-A-Truck is a wonderful community event where children can learn that police officers and firefighter are there to help them and our community.
