Willowbrook Mall celebrates teachers for National Teacher Day on May 7, 2013. Visit their facebook page nominate and vote for a teacher. Voting for the event closes April 28.
On National Teacher Day, thank teachers for making public schools great! Teachers in Cy-Fair ISD and in communities across the nation will be in the spotlight on National Teacher Day, as students, parents, school administrators and the general public learn how teachers are making Great Public Schools for every student.

Education has been ongoing in the Cypress Fairbanks area since at least the 1600’s with the area’s first schoolhouse built in the late 1800’s. Since then the focus on educational excellence has been a driving force of what has developed into the Cypress Fairbanks ISD of today. Some of the districts schools include:

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees member Dr. John Ogletree has been recognized as a Master Trustee by the Texas Association of School Boards after completing a leadership program sponsored by the organization.
Dr. Ogletree completed Leadership TASB, which involved several months of instruction and leadership development courses. Ogletree and other board members presented research projects that included information about college readiness, student health, board leadership, funding inequalities, classroom adaptations and parental involvement.

Are your children already tired of sitting at home this summer? A local YMCA branch will be offering full-day and half-day camp options for the next three months!
The YMCA will offer Camp Run-A-Muck for children ages 5-10 from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM June 18 through August 24. Facility members pay $160 per week for all-day camps, and $125 for half-day camps. Program members pay $185 for full-day camps and $155 for half-day camps.

Cypress Ranch High School senior Weston Grove was recently recognized as a McNair Scholar at the University of South Carolina. The McNair Scholars Program is one of the most prestigious scholarships at the University of South Carolina, and Grove was one of only twenty selected out of all applicants.
Selection for the McNair Scholars Program is based on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, enriching extracurricular activities, an outstanding essay response and a face-to-face interview. Grove is currently ninth in his class, a National Merit Scholar, a third-year starter on the Mustang soccer team, and is class vice president. Grove plans to major in biomedical engineering.

The Cy-Fair Independent School District food service department has received the Standards of Excellence designation, the highest level of accreditation given by the Texas Association for School Nutrition.
To earn the Standards of Excellence recognition, a district’s food service department must voluntarily achieve targets in various categories.

See the future America’s finest strut their stuff at the tenth annual Cy-Fair Independent School District Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Pass In Review on Saturday, April 14 at 9 AM at the Berry Center.
Pass In Review is a long-running military tradition that allows commanders an opportunity to inspect the troops under their authority.

Due to statewide cuts in education funding to districts over the past several years, Cy-Fair ISD administrators had to make some difficult choices in where to reduce budgetary spending.
That is why Cy-Fair residents and district employees were happy to learn at the recent school board meeting that there will be no further expected budget reductions for the 2012-13 school year.

The 18th Annual Cy-Fair Independent School District Livestock Show and Sale will take place February 2 through 4 at the Cy-Fair ISD Exhibit Center.
More than 800 Future Farmers of America students from the ten Cy-Fair high schools will bring their livestock projects to the show for judging and sale to the community and animal buyers.

CyFair Independent School District hosts its 10th annual wrestling tournament at the Berry Center on January 6 and 7.
This is the largest wrestling tournament in Texas, with between 50 to 60 boys teams and 20 to 30 girls teams from across Texas and Louisiana expected to participate.
