As 2012 unfolds there will be an increased political awareness among Cypress area residents while we draw closer to the November election. This year we will be voting for president, a new U.S. Senator to replace the retiring Kay Baily Hutchison, congressional representatives, Texas state senators and representatives, along with numerous county, city, school board, and other local officials. That’s right, it’s a big one.

Where should you turn to if you wish to become politically involved, volunteer for a campaign, or simply learn more about the candidates? Whether you vote straight-ticket Democrat, are a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, or an Independent “swing” voter, there are numerous political organizations around Cypress you can turn to for information and events.

The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation presents A Salute to Our Heroes, a gala honoring the men and women of America’s Armed Forces, Saturday, February 11, at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston beginning at 6:30 pm.

The evening’s highlighted speaker is Keni Thomas, a Bronze Star for Valor recipient, and former Army Ranger featured in the famed “Black Hawk Down” mission.
