On Saturday April 16 the third annual All-Earth Ecobot Challenge was held at the University of Houston Athletics Alumni Center.
For the last two years students in grades 5 through 8 could enter the contest. This year the competition was open to fourth graders too! The competition allows students to develop critical problem-solving skills through engineering, math, science and technology.
Students created, programmed and operated autonomous robots that completed tasks related to energy generation, conservation and the environment.

Two new health occupation certificate programs are now being offered, starting in May 2011, at the Lone Star College-CyFair Continuing Education department. The new programs include Medication Aide and Pharmacy Technician.
The Medication Aide program offers non-licensed nursing personnel the opportunity to gain instruction preparation and administration of designated medications.
The Pharmacy Technician program provides students, interested in working in the retail pharmacy setting, the skills needed to successfully test for the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Technician exam.

On Wednesday March 2, Superintendent Dr. David Anthony was joined by Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Middle and High School student leaders at the first of four Superintendent’s Student Leadership Advisory Council Meetings.
The council is designed to allow students to offer their options on school-related topics in an organized forum. Student leaders will also have the opportunity to learn real-world leadership skills and engage the Superintendent on other issues.
Topics discussed at the first meeting included campus safety and security and also course offerings designed to prepare students for college and future careers.

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District was proud to find that ten of their students were chosen as school finalists in the Houston/Harris County Do the Write Thing challenge.
These students will be recognized at a reception that will be held on Saturday, May 21st at Minute Maid Park.
The Houston area had nearly 14,000 students from area middle schools submit essays to the popular contest, which offers students the chance to examine and express their thoughts on the impact of youth violence on their lives.
