First Senior Center in Cypress to Open Soon

Cypress-area senior citizens will soon have a place to hang out and call their own.

The Vaughn Gage Senior Activity Center is scheduled to open next month during the first week of June at its location currently under construction at 11020 Saathoff Road, in Cypress.

WineStyles, a local wine outlet, will host a wine tasting and charity golf tournament to benefit the Special Olympics on April 29 and 30 at their store and the Cypress Lakes Golf Club.


The Cy-Fair Independent School District food service department has received the Standards of Excellence designation, the highest level of accreditation given by the Texas Association for School Nutrition.

To earn the Standards of Excellence recognition, a district’s food service department must voluntarily achieve targets in various categories.

Register for Cy-Fair Relay For Life

Get your walking shoes ready! The largest cancer fundraising event in the world returns to Cy-Fair.

The American Cancer Society hosts the 2012 Relay For Life at Cy-Falls High School on April 13 and 14, beginning at 7 PM and lasting until the early morning.


Cy-Fair ISD 2012-13 Budget to Remain Balanced

Due to statewide cuts in education funding to districts over the past several years, Cy-Fair ISD administrators had to make some difficult choices in where to reduce budgetary spending.

That is why Cy-Fair residents and district employees were happy to learn at the recent school board meeting that there will be no further expected budget reductions for the 2012-13 school year.


LSC Cy-Fair Hosts Spring Open House

The 34th annual 1960 St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Sunday, March 11, beginning at 2 PM along FM 1960.


Houston to Host Annual Bayou City Classic 10K

The Bayou City Classic, Houston’s premiere annual 10K race and walk, will be Saturday, March 10, through downtown Houston, beginning at 8 AM.

This race has been a spring tradition for 35 years and attracts more than 3,000 participants annually. New for 2012 is the option to participate in the first-ever Bayou City Classic 5K run and walk.


Lone Star College at Cy-Fair presents its Learning, Inspiration, Fellowship, and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) program for the month of March with offerings through each Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. These are free classes at the campus library in room 131.

Throughout March you will have the opportunity to become a back yard gardener, discover your family’s forgotten history, and navigate through the newest tablet computers.
